Located at the end of the Samana Peninsula, Las Galeras is a quiet town home to a small community of European ex-pats who make their living promoting tourism.  There are plenty of ways to keep busy, from visiting the local beaches to fishing and diving, but as far as actual attractions are concerned, you might have an easier time finding sites to see about a half an hour away in the town of Samana.

Las Galeras Beach

There are a large selection of beaches to enjoy in and around the area. Snorkeling is an option at some of the beaches, if some members of your party enjoy this relaxing pastime. Click on the beach names for a detailed article concerning that particular location.

Las Galeras Beach: Dotted by coconut palms and backed by green trees and a few hotel properties, Las Galeras is a half-moon shaped beach of white sand and turquoise waters.

Another alternative that beach-goers can consider is La Playita Beach. Fittingly, Calle a la Playita leads directly to La Playita Beach.

Colorada Beach: Colorada Beach is set on the eastern tip of the Domincan Republic. This section of sand is not one of the island's most popular locales due to the often rough waves, but visitors looking for a day of seclusion may enjoy sunbathing and beach combing here.

Las Galeras and the surrounding areas have a nice selection of beaches to choose from. Take advantage of this article if you'd like to discover some more specifics.

Whale Museum Of Samana

Assuming you like to become more aware of other cultures and places, you might enjoy visiting a museum during your vacation.

A landmark that often intrigues visitors is Shipwreck Maritime Museum. It is located in Samana, 10.2 mi. South West of central Las Galeras. Visitors are welcomed to come and visit the Shipwreck Maritime Museum, where they will witness some of the more tragic circumstances of maritime history. The majority of the museum is focused on artifacts found from the French Warship "La Scipion" which sank during the American Revolution.

Another landmark worth visiting is Whale Museum Of Samana. It is found in Samana, 10.8 mi. South West of central Las Galeras. As part of one of the largest whale sanctuaries on the planet, Samana shows great pride in their part to help the large mammals. Part of that pride has led to the Whale Museum, an entire museum dedicated to whales, their lives, and the role they play in the global ecosystem.
