On the north coast in the Puerto Plata province of the Dominican Republic is a small town Luperon. The beaches here are especially attractive and are great for swimming, while if you're willing to travel just outside of town you can lace up your hiking boots and see some of the most beautiful natural sites you're likely to ever experience.

Beaches

Playa Grande

You'll find an abundance of beaches to enjoy in and around the area. Just click on the name of the beach to get additional information about that beach.

Luperon Beach: Water sports are the main attraction at Luperon Beach with everything from snorkeling to windsurfing equipment available in huts along the beach. The surf can be a little rough, so swimming is not a recommended pastime for novice swimmers, but snack bars provide light foods and cold drinks to make the tropical heat less taxing for those who still want to relax on the beach.

A second alternative that beach-goers can consider is Playa de Nena. One of the many spots of sand along the North Coast, Playa de Nena is a natural beach offering plenty of privacy.

Playa Nena Cove: Wile you will have to travel down dirt roads to reach Playa Nena Cove, the roads will be relatively well maintained, though it is probably still a good idea to have a four wheel drive vehicle.

Of course, the area has plenty of additional beaches in and around the area. For a more comprehensive look at beaches, visit this page.

Waterfalls

Twenty-Seven Waterfalls of Damajagua

Although most visitors to the area are attracted by the region's beaches, that isn't the only way to experience the area's natural beauty. One such example is Twenty-Seven Waterfalls of Damajagua. It is situated 14.6 mi. Southeast of central Luperon.
These waterfalls are less a natural experience as much an extreme attraction. Gear up in a life jacket and helmet and climb, jump, and swim in these large collection of pools and falls.

Casinos

Dominican Republic Casinos

People do not generally stay in Luperon to gamble, although there is one such venue nearby, Casino Riu Bachata.
Located at the Rio Club Hotel, Casino Riu Bachata is the perfect spot for nighttime entertainment in Puerto Plata. Whether pulling the slots or participating in a high stakes table game, you'll feel the energy pulse through you as you create a memorable night.
