Known as “La Capital del Sol,” or the “Sun Capital,” Luquillo is one place where a trip to the beach is an absolute necessity. The town is home to some of the nicest beaches in the area surrounding San Juan, with fine soft sand and gorgeous tropical landscaping backing the shore. Ample facilities are available at public beaches, which is not always the case in Puerto Rico, though there are no lifeguards. The further south you travel, the less crowded you'll find the beaches.
