Sailing is a popular pastime in Luquillo, but it is also possible to sail to Puerto Rico from international waters as well. Some people have their own yacht and will typically sail down from the east coast of the United States, or they will charter a boat to do the same. Those who don't have the skills to do so can even hire a crew to captain and run the boat for them.
If you are just wanting to spend a few hours on the water, without the cost and responsibility associated with renting a boat you can take an excursion. Want to know more what it's like to go along for the ride? See the chart below to get contact information for area day sailing companies.

When you arrive, you'll meet with customs so that they can go over the paperwork both for the boat and for your travels, before they'll approve whether or not you'll gain entry to the island. Customs is open Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a break for lunch from noon to 1:00 p.m. After you've been cleared, you can continue on to Luquillo and dock along the coast there.
