Located in between Malmok and Arashi beaches, Boca Catalina is a popular spot for snorkelers, divers, and sunbathers. Thatched huts offer shady spots, and the calm, clear turquoise waters make it a good spot for kids to get in the water. From the shore, you can watch sailboats and windsurfers while you enjoy the seclusion and tranquility of this relatively uncrowded, while easily accessible, spot. But don't expect much in the way of facilities.
Situated on the northwestern side of the island of Aruba, 0.7 miles west of Tierra Del Sol, You should think about stopping by regardless of whether you're staying nearby. Boca Catalina stands out because it's one of the best spots for escaping over-crowded hangouts in the town proper. Many of the other beaches you'll come across in Aruba may have the same pleasing, tropical setting as Boca Catalina, but tend to be busier because they're frequented by tourists looking for a lively scene.
The beach is just off L.G. Smith Blvd, the main road, and access is easy. A car or taxi will take you directly there, and public transportation is also an option as there is a bus stop very close.
The water is clear and the currents are not very strong. Expect to swim out a couple hundred feet to reach deep enough waters for really good snorkeling. At the coral reefs off shore, expect to find many kinds of tropical fish, and even barracudas. If you're up for it, you can dive the Antilla Shipwreck, a sunken WWII cargo ship. On shore, the sand is clean, white, and powdery.
Keep in mind that restrooms won't be found on-site, so if you're visiting with small children you might want to consider a different location. The water here is clear enough for snorkeling, so bring along some gear if you're looking to see some exciting marine life.
Be mindful that Boca Catalina's immediate surroundings are highly urbanized, so factor that into your plans.
