Traveling to Marigot by Airplane

Flying to Marigot may be the easiest way to travel

Most people who plan to fly to their getaway in Marigot will first land on the Dutch side of the island where a major international airport is located.  From there, it only takes a quick drive over to the French side to reach their accommodations, and folks rarely bat an eye traveling across an invisible border from one country to another.

Princess Juliana International Airport

Located in Grand Case is the Princess Juliana International Airport, one of the most modern and busiest airports in the Caribbean.  Thanks to its exemplary facilities, this airport is often the connecting point for international flights to other smaller airports in the region.  The airport features a 7,540 foot asphalt and concrete runway, a four story terminal building, space for private aviation, and a modernized control tower.  Within the terminal building are more than 40 check in desks, 10 immigration booths, 13 gates, and over 40 shops and restaurants.  Because St. Martin and Sint Maarten are completely duty free, getting through customs here is extremely easy.

L'Espérance Airport

There is also a lesser known airport on the French side of the island.  Formally called the L'Esperance Airport, it is also known as the Grand Case Airport since it is located in Grand Case.  It serves only a small number of flights each week, mainly from regional air carriers such as St. Barth Commuter and Air Antilles Express.

Flying to Marigot from the US

Most major airports along the east coast of the United States offer direct flights to Princess Juliana on a regular basis with Delta Airlines, Jet Blue, Spirit Airlines, and American Airlines.  Tourists rarely report issue booking flights here even if it may mean connecting in New York or Florida.

When flying from the states the following table may be of help. Booking services may not recognize the best options so it can be helpful to realize which airlines actually fly direct to this airport.

Flying to Marigot from Canada

From Canada, travelers often find it easy to fly from Toronto with Air Canada, but like those who live on the West Coast of the United States or in Middle America, booking a connection through an East Coast airport might work better if you have a very specific schedule to keep.

Flying to Marigot from Europe

It takes between eight and 12 hours to get to Princess Juliana from most destinations with flights from Europe.  France offers the most regular service, but you may also be able to make the trip from the Netherlands two to three times a week.

Flying to Marigot from the Caribbean

If you're visiting Marigot from another destination in the Caribbean you should have no trouble at all booking a flight.  Nearly every airport in the region sends flights to Princess Juliana on a regular basis.  This is also your best chance to find a flight to the airport in Grand Case.  Guadeloupe and St. Barthelemy are the major connecting points there.

See below for air service from other regional airports. Even if you can't take a flight directly from your local airport, making a connection through another airport in the Caribbean may be a very viable option.

Next Stop, Marigot

It only takes about 10 minutes to get to Marigot from the international airport if you're traveling by car.  To drive yourself, you'll take Airport Road to Union Road, continuing on to Rue de Hollande, before turning right onto Rue de Concordia and there you will find yourself in Marigot.  Taxis are available from the airport for about $20(USD).

Located just across the bridge from one of the most important airports in the region, as well as moments from a much smaller airport, planning to fly to Marigot is one of the easiest decisions you can make.  Even with the large number of flights that land here each day, it is always a good idea to book your flight as far in advance of your trip as possible to be sure you can travel when you want as well as to secure the best deals.
