Fort Louis

Once a major component of Marigot's defense, Fort Louis stands over the city offering fantastic views of both Marigot and the island of nearby Anguilla. Visitors will be able to take in the views, and learn about this mighty garrison that has been standing guard for over two-hundred years.


Partially in ruins, the fort still gives tourists an idea of what it took to protect the surrounding area. Many find it is pleasurable to hike up the hill to the fort, tour the property, and take a moment to gaze out over the surrounding area, which includes a panoramic view of nearby Anguilla in the distance.

Consider staying in downtown Marigot if you plan on visiting Fort Louis, as those visiting this part of St. Martin will have easy site access throughout their trip. There is a reasonably good selection of lodgings around the area surrounding this historical site.

There are multitudes of restaurants to choose from in the neighborhood around this historical site. The nearest eatery is Plongeoir, which serves up Asian food. The restaurant is a small ways off, but far-removed enough that you might want to aim for using some method of transportation to transport your party. Also within reach, you and your group will encounter eateries like Ali Baba and Bali Bar where you and your group will want to try a bit of International cuisine and enjoy the culture of St. Martin.
