Bus transportation is cheaper than taxi service on Martinique

 

While bus and large taxi service throughout the island can be irregular, travelers who are doing limited amounts of touring should consider them. Buses offer travelers on Martinique a less expensive alternative to taxis and rental cars.

Large passengers buses, holding about 40 people, provide public transportation services within Fort de France. These public buses are the cheapest form of transport on the island, with fares going up to ?1.50. Although there is no bus service provided from the airport, these buses can provide a good mean of cheap transport for those staying within Fort-de-France.

Bus Routes

For those who will be traveling to resort areas outside of the limits of Fort-de-France, there are large 8 passenger taxis known as taxi collectifs. Travelers can spot these by the "TC" label that they bear, and service is based out of Pointe Simon in Fort-de-France.. Over 400 of these large taxis operate throughout the island from the early morning to about 6 p.m. in the evening. While this form of transport can be sporadic, unpredictable, and crowded, the fares are still considerably cheaper than expensive taxi service. A posted list of routes is usually found somewhere on the vehicle.
