As one of the top ten largest cities on Puerto Rico, Mayaguez experiences many of the luxuries of a large city while retaining a bit of the tropical island vibe that many visitors are looking for. Part of the reason it is so frequently chosen as a vacation spot is that there are over a dozen points of interests for tourists to explore. Because the landscape varies so greatly between city streets and country roads within a matter of moments, many tourists choose to let a local who is familiar with each change get them around by calling for a taxi when they need a ride.
The look and feel of a taxi in Mayagüez will differ depending on the operating company. Some taxis are full-sized vans that can carry large groups and others a painted bright yellow with the company logo on the side. You'll find them congregating in popular tourist destinations, and you can call to have a driver pick you up at any time as well.
If you can't seem to find a cab, or would prefer having one come to you at your location, you can call one of these local taxi companies:

|(787) 833-1233||18 De Diego - Mayagüez|

...it is all about negotiation...
If you have plans to visit more than one town in Puerto Rico, you'll notice that each has its own rules regarding the cost of a ride. In some places they use a meter and in others there is a zone system to help determine set rates. Mayagüez does neither of these things. Here it is all about negotiation. When you get into the cab, you'll ask the driver what he or she charges to get to your desired destination. If you are comfortable with this, you can agree and head on your way, but if you'd like to pay a little less, feel free to ask. Do not insult the driver by going too low; remember they still have to make a living. On that note, make sure to leave room in your budget for a tip of between 10 and 15 percent.
