Docking

Until recently, sailing into Jamaica was rife with fees that often discouraged yachters from making the sea voyage. After great debate, however, the government decided to drop most of these extra expenses. Now, sailors can dock for just one small amount rather than multiple larger fees, and anyone sailing a vessel smaller than 25 feet long can dock for free for up to two years. When you arrive on the island, you'll have to first sail into one of the official ports of entry in Kingston, Montego Bay, Port Antonio, Ocho Rios, Port Kaiser, Port Esquivel, Discovery Bay. The nearest is in Kingston.

Seriously considering visiting Montego Bay using a vessel you own, or one you charter? The following table provides a quick summary of area marinas.

When you sail into Jamaica, do so with your “Q” flag up, and have all necessary documentation at the ready, including a list of the ship's stores, the ship's registration, a crew list and declaration, and departure permission from your last port of call. You can contact customs at VHF 16 to let them know you are on your way in. Once you have been cleared, you can sail to the Royal Jamaica Yacht Club where there are over 150 slips capable of docking vessels up to 50 feet long.
