Shopping in Montego Bay

Your shopping experience in Montego Bay is likely to be one of the most diverse you'll encounter on the island.  Strip malls, craft fairs, vendors on the beach, and stand along boutiques downtown are all part of the shopping landscape, and each has a slightly different feel.

Craft markets are extremely popular in Montego Bay, with at least one going on somewhere each day with over 100 vendors at almost all times.  Here, you'll find a great selection of Jamaican crafts and souvenirs, but you need to be prepared for the aggressive nature of the vendors.  Bargaining is recommended here and at any stands you encounter on the beach.

The main shopping areas outside of craft markets is the City Centre where most of the duty free shops are, Montego Freeport, a collection of shops near the pier, and the Holiday Village Shopping Center.  Other malls exist throughout town, and you'll find that most resorts have at least a small souvenir shop for guests.

One of the area's more popular specialty retailers is Gallery of West Indian Art. They're located in Montego Bay. The Gallery of West Indian Art was founded by Liz DeLisser over four decades ago, after becoming discouraged with the lack of artwork from the West Indies available in Jamaica. Since it originally opened, this shop has expanded to encompass two retail outlets in Montego Bay, as well as branches throughout the Caribbean. Visitors will be able to find them at 11 Fairfield Road .
