Beaches in Nassau

The capital city of Nassau covers quite a bit of area on New Providence Island which includes the busy shore front of Cable Beach, all along the north coast, around the eastern tip, and halfway across the southern shore.  Within this area, you'll find a lot of variation.  Most would advise you skip the southern beaches, which don't have much to recommend them, head to Cable Beach for the most on-site facilities, and find a spot along the northeast coast for something a little quieter.

Which Beaches Are Available?

You will discover a large selection of beaches to consider visiting in and around the area. You can click on each beach name for a detailed article concerning that particular stretch of sand.

Western Esplanade Beach

Junkanoo Beach: The waters in between downtown Nassau and Paradise Island - upon which Junkanoo Beach look out onto - are constantly busy, often ushering cruise ships in and out. And with downtown Nassau to the rear, it may not be the quietest beach in the Bahamas, but it's nevertheless a quiet, relaxing place to spend an afternoon, particularly when you've tired of shopping and sight-seeing.

Another location for beach-goers to consider is Goodman Beach. You can access this beach at a number of spots from West Bay Street as it curves along Goodman Bay on the northern coast of the island.

South Beach: Frequented almost exclusively by locals, this somewhat narrow beach is blessed with lots of natural shade from the the mangroves which line the coast here. The water is calm, clear and mostly shallow - perfect for casual swimming and wading.
