Legend has it that Bloody Bay got its name after a particularly bloody pirate battle took place her, but today you'll find more tourists on these shores than buccaneers. Because a large number of resorts edge out the beach, many people believe that sections of the beach are owned by the resort that sits in front of it. In actuality, Blood Bay is a public beach where clothing is optional and snorkeling is a favored pastime.
Located in Negril Beach Hotel Zone, 2.9 miles south west of Orange Bay, Bloody Bay is on the West coast of Jamaica. You should consider dropping by even if you aren't staying nearby. Many of the beaches in Jamaica are quiet and secluded, but Bloody Bay offers those same relaxation qualities without having to be too far removed from the city's activity.
Bloody Bay can be found just off Norman Manely Boulevard near the Negril Aerodome. Turn onto the side road at Breezes Grand Resort and Spa, and follow it right to the sand.
Lined with sprawling resorts and bowed palm trees, Bloody Bay features white to tan sands speckled with colorful shells, and clear, calm azure waters. Not far off shore is a shallow coral reef structure.
There is also a great restaurant right on-site if you're interested; many find it the perfect, convenient solution for lunch. Vacationers will find plenty of places in Jamaica serving up delicious local cuisine, but some meals are best enjoyed spontaneously, in a truly casual setting. Many visitors, in fact, have lunch right on their towels in the sand. Sometimes, hotels offer to pack up on-the-go lunches for their guests. Otherwise, you could easily grab some of Jamaica's famous street food along the way.
The snack bar located at this spot is perfect for quick lunches and cold drinks, too.
Unfortunately, public restrooms aren't available, but you may be able to find facilities at a nearby business. Luckily, visitors can access lounge chairs at this destination. Fortunately, the water here is clear and good for snorkeling, so bring along some equipment if you're wanting to check out the underwater sites.
Don't forget that the area right around Bloody Bay is rather congested, so you may find many people vying for the use of the same amenities.
