Renting a Car

Many tourists arrive on Nevis and immediately head to the nearest rental agency to pick up a car so that they can make the most of their time on the island traveling from site to site and exploring the bountiful nature. There are no rental car agencies located directly at the Vance W. Amory International Airport or the Charlestown Ferry Terminal, but there are a few that are very near and those that are not often offer drop-off and pick-up services. If you do plan on renting a car, it is advised that you take advantage of this delivery service, thus eliminating the need to hire a taxi. Be smart about it though, if your plan is to relax at a for the majority of the trip, renting a car may be an unneccesary cost.

The Cost of Renting a Car

In order to rent a car on Nevis you'll need to purchase a local driver's permit, which costs $24(USD) and is good for three months. No driving test is necessary and you can do this through your rental agency. The cost of a rental here ranges from $40 to $60(USD) a day, depending upon the type of car you rent, as well as if you add insurance.

As you look over the prices, imagine what kind of trip you will be having. A larger SUV may be great for driving down the rural eastern roads, but unneccesary if you plan on staying within Charlestown.

Gas Stations

A few things to note before you hit the road: driving is done on the left side of the road like in Europe, seat belts are required by law, and the roads are not in the best condition, so be prepared to hit a few pot holes along the way.
