Between Cay Point and Long Point, this quiet strip of white sand is usually deserted, and makes for a nice little escape from the hustle and bustle of downtown Nassau. This well-kept secret is worth a visit if you have a rental car.
Located four and a half miles south of downtown Nassau, South Beach is on the South East edge of New Providence. You might think about stopping by even if you aren't staying very close. South Beach is a distinguishable relaxation spot because it's one of the best spots for escaping over-crowded hangouts in the town proper. Other nearby beaches in the Bahamas may have the same warm sand and calming breezes as South Beach, but are usually busier since they're near some of the most popular hotels.
From downtown Nassau, take Baillou Hill Rd south. Staying on this, you'll reach meeting point of Zion Blvd and Cowpen Rd, but continuing straight will put you on S Beach Rd, which, as the name implies, will take you directly to the beach.
Frequented almost exclusively by locals, this somewhat narrow beach is blessed with lots of natural shade from the the mangroves which line the coast here. The water is calm, clear and mostly shallow - perfect for casual swimming and wading.
Unfortunately, you won't find any public restrooms along this coastline.
South Beach brings guests an idyllic and serene experience, as the surrounding area is more rural than urban.
