South Beach

Between Cay Point and Long Point, this quiet strip of white sand is usually deserted, and makes for a nice little escape from the hustle and bustle of downtown Nassau. This well-kept secret is worth a visit if you have a rental car.

Located four and a half miles south of downtown Nassau, South Beach is on the South East coast of New Providence. You should think about stopping by even if you aren't staying very close. The Bahamas' beaches are hardly known for being secluded, however, South Beach is tamer than most, which offers some middle ground to those who aren't fond of huge throngs of tourists.

How to Access The Beach
From downtown Nassau, take Baillou Hill Rd south. Staying on this, you'll reach meeting point of Zion Blvd and Cowpen Rd, but continuing straight will put you on S Beach Rd, which, as the name implies, will take you directly to the beach.

Amenities and Ambiance

Frequented almost exclusively by locals, this somewhat narrow beach is blessed with lots of natural shade from the the mangroves which line the coast here. The water is calm, clear and mostly shallow - perfect for casual swimming and wading.

Unfortunately, public restrooms aren't available, so if you're visiting with small children you might want to consider a different location.

South Beach brings visitors an idyllic and peaceful retreat, especially since the location that surrounds the beach is away from most urbanization.
