The town of Noord is just 15 minutes away from the airport by car, and tourists will have the option of choosing between renting a car and hiring a taxi when they arrive on the island of Aruba. Although rentals are a good option for many, others find them to be a waste because they don't plan to do much exploring outside of Noord, or they simply don't feel comfortable driving in a foreign country. Luckily, the taxi cab system on the island is stellar.
When you first arrive on the island, you'll easily find taxis at the airport, but otherwise there may be a bit of difficulty. First, because taxis look just like private vehicles, they can be hard to spot, and second because taxis tend to go where they are called rather than drive around until they see someone who needs a ride. You may see a taxi or two driving around popular attractions or near hotels, but it isn't something you should count on. You can solve the first problem by checking out the license plate, which will have the letters “TX” on it.
The second issue is easily solved as well. Keep the numbers of local cab companies on hand, and call them whenever you are in need of a ride. Many drivers will often even be willing to make note of all of the time you'll need to be picked up that day, and swing by to get you so that you don't have to call multiple times. Your hotel's concierge may also be able to take care of this for you, but it is best to know a number or two just to be safe.

While most taxis in the United States are metered, in Noord, they have set rates. This means you'll be able to get into the taxi and ask for a rate chart which will tell you exactly how much it will cost to get from one place to the next. The cost includes up to five riders, and it is up to passengers to determine if they will each pay a bit or if one person will be in charge of the whole fee.
In addition to these set rates, you may be charged a small fee for certain extras. Rides on Sundays, holidays, and overnight between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. cost $3(USD) more than the typical rate, and if you have something to store in the trunk, it will cost an extra 3(USD) as well. The only exception is those traveling to and from the airport will be allotted one piece of luggage and one carry on item at no extra charge. Anything beyond that will be an extra $2(USD) per piece. If you're hiring a cab to help you run some errands, it may be rise to hire them for an hour for a set fee of $45. Otherwise, you're looking at spending $3(USD) per five minutes that the driver has to wait on you.
Want to know what you'll pay to use a cab? See the following list of examples.

|$ 7.00||Palm Beach||Noord|
|$ 33.00||Noord||San Nicolas|
|$ 27.00||Noord||Reina Beatrix International Airport|

Finally, make sure you are clean and dry when you get into the taxi. If you stain or leave a wet mark, you will be charged $50(USD) to have the seat cleaned.
Not every tourist needs to rent a car as their main source of transportation in Noord. If you feel more comfortable letting a local who knows their way around and has years of practice with driving laws and road conditions chauffeur you around, taxis are a great choice.
