Located on the way to Sandy Point, Cottage Pond is enshrouded in mystery due largely in part to the fact that nobody knows exactly how deep the pond is. Legends abound about the are, from the idea that a mermaid inhabits the water source, to stories of Royalists tossing slaves in to drown several hundred years ago. Cottage Pond is located to the right as you exit Sandy Pond, A short road takes you to a parking area right outside the pond area. Be warned that the parking area is a tight one, so be aware of your surroundings when you park to ensure you will be able to get out with little trouble.
In actuality, Cottage Pond is a deep cave or sink hole that stretches to depths of at least 255 feet. The color of the water itself reflects the greenery that encircles the pond. The flora at Cottage Pond, comprised of thick, leafy trees is so lush and beautiful that locals often say that it is a garden tended by the gods.
Unfortunately, public restrooms aren't available, so those of you traveling with small children may want to consider another spot.

is the closest city to Cottage Pond Beach. It is certainly not a bustling region, but it will be a pleasant day trip for those wanting to get a taste of local life.
Whether or not you encounter many other people will depend on many factors, including the capacity of nearby hotels. The area does not have very many large hotels, but it can attract guests staying at the few small lodgings in the area.
