The Butterfly People

Established in 1970, the Butterfly People is one of the more unique art concepts in Puerto Rico. Located in Old San Juan, the Butterfly People invites guests in to view a collection of artwork prepared using the remains of butterflies. In fact, this gallery houses the largest butterfly collection in the world.

In full accordance with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Butterfly People creates boxed artwork from the preserved remains of butterflies from around the world who have lived a full life cycle and died naturally. The butterflies are then shipped to the Butterfly People and encased in an acrylic/lcite solution that preserves their natural beauty and allows them to "live" on. Butterfly art is a popular choice for gifts.
