If you are looking for fresh food and friendly people, stop by the Farmers Market in Old San Juan and pick up some locally grown fruit and vegetables. Old San Juan Farmer's Market began in March of 2010, when a group of locals got together to set up a community market. It was an immediate success, and has met every Saturday since to sell amongst one another and to anyone who chooses to support local farmers, bakers, and artisans who set up shop.
Each Saturday, locals set up their wares among the arches of the San Juan Museum, offering a collective of locally grown and made products. Their focus is local, sustainable Agriculture, so, along with seasonal organic vegetables and fruit, some of the market's offerings include artisan cheeses and breads, a wide variety of delicious prepared foods from several chefs, exotic flowers, organic coffee, fresh tropical juices including the traditional coconut water and cane juice, amazing desserts including vegan and gluten free, essential oils and soaps harvested from local ingredients
Popular items among tourists seem to include organic coffees and teas, nutrition bars, pesto, essential body oils, market bags and aprons bearing the market logo designed by well-known local artist Nick Quijano.
