San Juan National Historic Site

The San Juan National Historic Site is the overarching Historic Zone that includes much of Old San Juan. Within the zone are the two main forts, Castillo San Cristobal and San Felipe del Morro, as well as several other historic sites.


Located on the grounds of the San Juan National Historic Site are two forts that once protected San Juan as well as powder houses, bastions, and walls. Guests are welcome to tour the property with the rangers who give hourly orientation presentations that last about 20 minutes, or take a self-guided tour. And, one of the most enjoyable options while spending a few hours exploring the area is sharing a meal at a restaurant within traveling distance of this historical site. Aureola Cafe Restaurant, which has a menu full of Caribbean food, is very close-by, making it a great option for patrons here. The restaurant is a short distance off, but out of the way enough that you might decide to decide on using a particular method of transportation to transport your party. Nono's Bar And Restaurant and La Tortuga are additional refreshment choices nearby. At La Tortuga you and your party will be able to sample Italian dishes and enjoy the Puerto Rico scene.

San Juan National Historic Site is open to the public daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.


The cost to visit the forts at San Juan National Historic Site is $3(USD) per adult aged 16 and up, or $5(USD) for both. It s also important to note that while parking is free for the first hour, it costs $2(USD) per hour after that.
