How to Reach Orient Bay by Airplane

Many international carriers fly to the airport nearest Orient Bay

The island's main airport is actually located in Dutch St. Maarten, but landing there and traveling to Orient Bay on the French side of the island is much less of a hassle than you might imagine it to be.  Plus, the fact that this airport serves as a regional hub means that direct flights here are much more easy to come by than other spots in the Caribbean.

Princess Juliana International Airport

Princess Juliana International Airport is a massive facility located in Simpson Bay.  The terminal is four stories tall and inside there are over 40 shops and restaurants, more than 40 check in desks, 10 immigration booths, and 13 gates which are served by one 7,540 foot asphalt and concrete runway.  The airport is known as one of the most modern in the region and is easy to travel through thanks to the fact that the island is a duty free port.

L'Espérance Airport

Also on the French side of the island is L'Esperance Airport.  It is located in Grand Case, and a small facility that welcomes smaller commuter flights mainly from Guadeloupe with Air Antilles Express and St. Barthelemy with St. Barth Commuter.  It is extremely rare for fights to land here from outside of the Caribbean.

Flying to Orient Bay from the US

If you're traveling from the east coast of the United States, you'll generally find it pretty easy to book a direct flight to Princess Juliana International Airport.  Florida, New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts all offer regular service to the island, and those from the rest of the country will typically connect through these states.

Flying to Orient Bay from Canada

Like some of the United States, many people traveling to Orient Bay from Canada connect through the East Coast of the U.S. if they find the schedule and pricing more pleasing to them than connecting through Toronto where Air Canada offers several flights a week.

Flying to Orient Bay from Europe

France and the Netherlands are your best bet if you're traveling from Europe.  Both offer two to three flights a week.  Travel time is about eight hours from both locations.

Flying to Orient Bay from the Caribbean

Those who are planning to visit several destinations in the Caribbean will find it extremely easy to travel to and from Princess Juliana International Airport.  Numerous daily flights are available from multiple islands in the region, both with small national airlines as well as major carriers.

See below for a listing of scheduled air service from other airports in the region. Even if you can't get a flight from an airport near your home, making a connection through another regional airport might prove to be a very good solution.

Next Stop, Orient Bay

If you're picking up a rental car and driving to Orient Bay, the process is pretty simple.  Take Airport Road to Union Road, continuing on to Rue de Hollande.  At the roundabout, take your second exit to Route du Morne Vallois then a left at Rue de Colombier.  After going through another roundabout, you'll turn left onto Avenue des Plages and there you will be in Orient Bay.  You can also take a taxi about about $30(USD), but be sure to check with your accommodations, because some offer a shuttle service for their guests.

Orient Bay is fortunate to be located within driving distance of one of the most important airports in the Caribbean.  Not only is it easy to book a flight to Princess Juliana International Airport, but it is easy to travel through the airport as well, which is good news all around.
