The most popular beach on the entire island, Orient Bay is also the most developed with restaurants, bars, shops, and hotels.  The beach itself is the main attraction, keeping visitors entertained whether they spend their time sunbathing (clothing is optional here) or participating in watersports. If you're looking to spend some time doing something away from the shore, you'll want to make plans to visit another local town.

Orient Beach

You will discover several beaches to visit in and around the area. Snorkeling is an option at some of these beaches, for vacationers who enjoy this relaxing pastime. You can click on the beach names for more information concerning that individual beach.

If you are looking for a place to snorkel, a beach with that option is Orient Beach. Orient Beach is one of St. Martin's most laid back beaches. It might be because it is a clothing optional beach.

Another good option for snorkelers is Galion Beach. This beach has some nice trees providing shade and is very sparsely developed. It's ideal for swimming and wading in warm Caribbean waters.

Green Cay: If you'd like to get away from the more crowded and well-known Orient Bay Beach, just head to nearby Green Cay (Caye Verte) for a bit of escapism on a gorgeous and serene beach.

Landmark Attractions

Yoda Guy Movie Exhibit

A landmark that often intrigues visitors is The Old House. It is located in southwestern Orient Bay. While the Museum is closed on Monday and Saturday, it is open on the other five days of the week from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Another interesting landmark worth visiting is Mount Vernon Plantation. It is located in southwestern Orient Bay. In addition to being home to a variety of fruit trees and some sugar cane, Mount Vernon Plantation is also the home to some old mill buildings that are a rare feature on the island. These humble buildings once served as the backbone to the entire St. Martin economy for decades, producing the products that made this island so lucrative to the European colonial powers.

Hope Estate Archeological Site: While at first glance this site may seem nothing more than another piece of land in Saint Martin's center, this area was actually the site of an Arawak Village built around 500 BC, and not abandoned until 450 AD. Archaeologist have been able to find artifacts here including pottery and ruins of the ancient village.

These examples are merely a few of the available choices. For a better look at landmarks this topic, see this guide to other interesting landmarks in and around Orient Bay.
