A common landmark for vacationers is The Old House. It is located within southwestern Orient Bay. The Old House Museum takes visitors back to the early days of Saint Martin's colonial history where they will learn of the culture, politics, and economics that have led the island to where it is today.
Another option is Yoda Guy Movie Exhibit. It's a museum near Orient Bay. An unexpected find on the island, this Star Wars replica and memorabilia museum not only exists, but it is one of the top three most popular museums in the whole of the Caribbean. Created by international artist Nick Maley, you can stop in and tour all of the important movie history that has touched him and his wife over the years.
Musée de Saint-Martin: The first showroom features an exhibit on the life of the Arawak Indians, and includes artifacts excavated from historic settlement areas. The most impressive of these artifacts is a molding of a Indian burial dated to 450 AD.

If you like to explore the history of an unfamiliar place, you should consider visiting one or two of these historical sites during your time in Orient Bay.
Many travelers choose to visit Mount Vernon Plantation. It is located in southwestern Orient Bay. While it may not seem like much now, it was fields like Mount Vernon Plantation that gave St. Martin its wealth during the colonial and early independence eras of its history. This historical park will give visitors a unique insight into the production of sugar, rum, and the harvest of numerous spices.
A second choice is Hope Estate Archeological Site. It's a historical site just outside of Orient Bay. The Hope Estate Archaeological Association is in charge of excavating Hope Estate, and over the years has amassed a huge collection of pottery and other artifacts, plus through the excavation of tombs learned about the Arawak peoples burial process. A tour of this site offered by the association will how off a number of the dig sites and uncovered artifacts.
: Built around the 1850's, Sucker Garden Salt Factory was at the time an experiment in increasing the efficiency of salt collection. The factory had a near century long lifespan, and was abandoned in 1948.
