The beaches of Palmas del Mar, while pleasing to the eye, are known for their strong currents and dangerous rip tides. Visitors are advised to avoid swimming when they notice large waves, and make sure there is a life guard on duty even when they are not. Fortunately, this high-end resort community has made sure their guests don't miss out on water activity by providing a number of pools and even some with water slides.
You will find several beaches to enjoy in and around the area. You can click on the name of each beach for a detailed review of that section of the coast.
Morillo Beach: Morillo Beach is located on the east coast of Puerto Rico, in a heavily populated part of town. While this may lend itself to busy weekends, many would agree that the opportunity to enjoy the calm, cool Caribbean Sea on this beach is worth braving the crowds.
A second alternative for beach-goers to consider is Playa Punta Santiago. This beach is unique in that it features both white and black sands; the white comes from washed up coral, and the black is volcanic matter. Meanwhile, the waters that wash ashore are aquamarine, making the color wheel of Playa Punta Santiago something to behold.
Maunabo Beach: The beaches of Maunabo Beach enjoy soft, golden colored sand and aquamarine waters. Some notable landmarks at each beach include the Punta Tuna Lighthouse at Faro Punta Tuna, the marshes at Playa Faro, and a seafood restaurant at Los Bohios.
