Boating and Sailing Near Palmas Del Mar

Palmas del Mar is a popular destination for pleasure sailors

Palmas Del Mar is just the type of place to attract the type of clientele that can afford to own a private yacht, and can certainly afford to hire a charter, captain, and crew when sailing themselves isn't an option. With one marina in town, options for docking are limited, but everything you need to sail is available, and luxury accommodations are a perk of the town as well.

If you are just wanting to enjoy a few hours on the open water, without the stress and cost of sailing on your own you should take a day sailing excursion. Check out the table that follows to obtain information on area day sailing companies.

Entry Requirements

...the most state-of-the-art marina...

Before heading to the famed yacht club that exists in Palmas Del Mar, you'll need first to clear customs. This can be done at one of several ports of entry on the island in San Juan, Mayagüez, Ponce, and Fajardo, but depending on which direction you travel, either Ponce or Fajardo will be your best choices. There, you'll meet with a customs official who will review your ships stores and paperwork, plus your immigration documentation before allowing you entry to the island. You will also need to pay between $25 and $37(USD) for a 12 month cruising permit, which will allow you to sail around local waters at your leisure.

In a place that attracts mega-millionaires in droves it is not surprising to find a marina where visitors can dock their private or chartered yachts while they are visiting the town. The Palmas del Mar Yacht Works is the most state-of-the-art marina in the Caribbean, featuring 152 slips that can house boats between 50 and 125 feet long, plus a number of side ties where vessels measuring up to 175 feet long are accommodated.
