Straw Market Nassau

Why go around the island looking for scattered vendors when you can go to the place where they congregate? The Straw Market is where you will find stalls and stalls of locals selling their products.

The Straw Market stems from the Bahama;'s history. Originally, around the early 1940's, the craft and skills of braiding, weaving and plaiting were useful for weaving baskets for carrying fruit and fishing traps. But after the end of World War II, North Americans began visiting the Bahamas and straw craft souvenirs became popular.

You will be able to find nearly any hand made product here from baskets, to clothes and blankets, to toys, and other souvenirs. There are thousands of items to choose from and locals and visitors alike enjoy the bustle of activity up and down the street. Hundreds of vendors bargain with buyers every day.

Bands also play music in the afternoons.
