While most people thing of Rincon and Arecibo's beaches when they plan a surfing vacation, Patillas is another area that should be at the top of the list. Considered the "Surfing Capital of the South" this town has at least eight different beaches that are great for surfing, especially during hurricane season. While this doesn't necessarily bode well for casual swimmers, adventurous beachgoers won't want to miss out on this area of the island.
You'll find a large number of beaches to consider visiting in and around the area. To get additional information concerning any one of these beaches simply click on the names of the ones you are intrigued by.
A beach where snorkeling is popular is La Playa Guardarraya. Local families frequent this beach because it is ideally located surrounded by restaurants and grocery stores so you don't have to pack up and bring all your supplies with you -- though with a few free use barbecue grills on site, you certainly can if you want to.
Another good choice for snorkeling fans is Playa Mala Pascua. This beach is a little unique in the area because it is comprised of a combination of sand and river rocks, but the water is calm and clear, so little ones can even enjoy a swim.
Emajagua Beach: Emajagua Beach is located just off Highway 3 which runs alongside the coast on one side and the forest on the other.
