The Cost of Renting a Car

In order to rent a car in Patillas you'll need to be over the age of 21, and in order to drive it you'll need a driver's license from your country of origin. If you are between the ages of 21 and 24, be prepared to pay a standard extra fee of $10 to $25(USD) a day. This is on top of the taxes, fees, and insurance that will already be added to the basic $40 to $70(USD) for the cost of the rental. You'll find that there are a variety of vehicles in different makes and models available at most places, so you can easily get a hold of the type of car you'd like to drive.


Driving in Patillas is not so different than driving in the United States. Traffic moves on the right side of the road, and most laws and standard rules of the road are the same. As an added bonus, Puerto Rico is known for having some of the best roads in the region, which means you won't encounter as many cracks, pot holes, and even dirt roads as many other locations in the Caribbean. Roads here are paved, well parked with directional signs, and lit at night.

You will notice that there are a few differences on the roads here, beginning with the fact that police cars are required to have their lights flashing the entire time they are in motion. Distances are noted in kilometers, while speed limits are in miles per hour, and gasoline is sold by the liter instead of by the gallon.
