Back Bay is situated on the east coast of the island and features dramatic hills and exciting waves splashing against the coast. Visitors head to area to admire the geological formations and natural feel rather than swimming in the sea, which can be quite dangerous. Swimmers can choose instead to head toward the natural pools.
Located near the heart of Sint Maarten, Back Bay is on the South East edge of the island of St. Martin and Sint Maarten. You might think about stopping by regardless of whether you are staying very close. St. Martin's beaches are pretty busy for the most part, however, Back Bay is tamer than most, which makes it an excellent attraction for those of you who don't want to wander too far away, but would rather avoid the most hectic parts of town.
Access to the area is limited to dirt paths, so it is advised that only the physically able attempt the trip.
The area features a view of the beautiful, conserved Marine Park and St. Barths. Hills surround the area, sparsely adorned with seagrapes and other local vegetation. While the exciting waters are great to watch, as they pelt the shoreline, it is unadvised for guests to do any serious swimming. Rather, nearby geological pools are a unique way to enjoy the landscape.
Keep in mind that restrooms won't be found on-site, so if you're visiting with small children you might want to consider a different location.
