Anglers staying in the Philipsburg area are in luck because they have easy access to the St. Maarten/St. Barths Drop-Off, a ledge which starts at 134 feet then quickly drops off to 1000 feet, and is teeming with favored big game fish. Mahi mahi, marlin, sailfish, kingfish, blackfin and yellowfin tuna, and snappers are common catches. If you're interested in fly fishing, you may not be as excited to travel here, because there is very little opportunity to do so.
If you like the idea of reeling in a big one while on vacation, there are several charter operators that can help make it happen.
