St. Maarten Zoo

In December of 1991, the St. Maarten Zoo opened its doors to the public, and today it is the largest zoo and playground in the Caribbean. Families love to explore the hundreds of animals that live on property, including birds, reptiles, and mammals.

Monkeys are a favorite at the St. Maarten Zoo, but other exhibited animals include birds and a host of mammals. The reptile and bat houses are not only educational, but a welcome reprieve from the hot sun, and a petting zoo is beloved by children of all ages.

Also on property is the Captain Hodges Playground, which is shaped like a pirate ship and is a fun spot for kids to get their energy out.

The St. Maarten Zoo is open Sunday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.


The cost of admission into the zoo is $10(USD) for adults and $5(USD) for children between the ages of three and 11. Anyone younger than three is granted free access.
