Set in a resort town of the same name, Playa del Carmen is one of the most popular beaches in the Maya Riviera. Just south of Cancun, the beach is not only known for its gorgeous tropical scenery, but the wealth of activities than guests can partake in, such as snorkeling and other water sports, fishing, beach volleyball, sunbathing, and more.

Located near the middle of downtown Playa del Carmen, this beach is on the East coast of Mexico. You should think about stopping by regardless of whether you are staying particularly close by. If hustle and bustle isn't your style, you'll appreciate that beaches here are generally pretty quiet. Then again, some vacationers seek out the loudest and the most active areas, and are better off trying a beach like Playa del Carmen, with a more upbeat atmosphere.

How to Access The Beach
Playa del Carmen's Main Beach is located on 4 Nte. bis, between Hotel All Riviera and Fusion.

Amenities and Ambiance

Playa del Carmen enjoys calm waters because of a break provided by a small off-shore reef formation. This makes it a great location for novice swimmers who want to splash around in the clear aquamarine waters, as long as they keep an eye out for sailboats that take off right from the beach. On shore, the sand is white and well kept, lined with lounge chairs palm trees, and the occasional life guard stand.

Unfortunately, public restrooms aren't available, so those of you traveling with small children may want to consider another spot. You'll find the waters off-shore to be fit for snorkeling, so purchase or rent some equipment if you've been hoping to get in some underwater exploration.

Since Playa del Carmen happens to be located in a major tourist area, many try to show up early.
