Car Rentals in Pointe a Pitre

Pick up a rental car in Pointe a Pitre and make your way around to all of the top sites

As the largest town in Guadeloupe, there is a lot of ground to cover for explorers and adventurers staying in Pointe a Pitre.  Renting a car is, for most visitors, the best way to make this happen thanks to the generally good driving conditions, ease of renting, and low cost.

Renting a Car

Most points of entry in town are the easiest places to find a rental car.  The airport is where the most agencies are located, followed by the ferry and cruise terminals, as a majority of visitors will pick up their rental when they arrive on the island and keep it until they leave.  For those who don't want to get their vehicle right away, many of the larger agencies offer 24-hour a day pick up and drop off services, and will deliver your rental right to you at your accommodations.  In order to rent here you'll need a valid driver's license from your home country and the funds to pay.  Otherwise, there are very few regulations.

Check out the table below which lists the many different area rental agencies.

The Cost of Renting a Car

Perhaps to balance out the high cost of hiring a taxi, renting a car in Pointe a Pitre is generally very affordable. A typical car rental is under $40 a day, a sports utility vehicle will cost around $70 a day, and a mini van could be just under $100(USD) a day.  The longer you rent, the lower the price will be, and where you rent from and the time of year will affect the cost as well.  Also leave room in your budget for the optional insurance, which is recommended, and a possible deposit.

This next set of tables provide a general feel for what rental rates to expect. The lowest rates only apply to the lowest cost firms when plenty of cars are on hand. The high rates are what you may be quoted when demand is at its peak.

Driving in Pointe a Pitre

Main roads in Pointe a Pitre are in great condition and are usually very well-maintained.  There are some smaller side roads that are not kept as well, and if you head out of town towards the rural areas, it is possible to encounter dirt roads. Signs are not very good, so make sure to pay extra close attention to where you are going so that you don't get lost.  Similarly, street lamps are almost non-existent, so driving at night is not recommended.  Traffic here moves on the right side of the road like in the United States.

Driving yourself around in the Caribbean is not always recommended, but here in Pointe a Pitre the conditions are good and the prices are right.  If you feel confident getting behind the wheel, there is no reason to discourage you from making it happen during your getaway here.
