There is much to recommend a vacation in Ponce, from the museums to the nightlife, but what many tourists are most concerned with is the beach situation. Ponce is home to four main beaches and a few others in outlying areas. All are equipped with facilities such as picnic tables and barbecue pits, bathrooms, and one even has a boardwalk with shops and restaurants. A day at the beach in Ponce is more of an experience here than nearly anywhere else in Puerto Rico, and definitely worth a visit.
You'll find a large number of beaches to consider in and around the area. To get additional information about a specific beach just click on the names of the ones you are interested in.
La Guancha: No sand of note lines the shores of La Guancha, just a boardwalk set up along the sea. The boardwalk is comprised of wooden plans, and green-roofed buildings are set behind the walk on the paved area.
Another place worth considering is Bainairo Beach. Set on Puerto Rico's south coast, Bainairo Beach is easily accessed from the coastal highway, which runs so close to the shore that it's almost criminal. This is a busy, crowded area of town, so if you're looking for a beach for people watching and meeting locals, this is the place for you.
Isla Caja de Muertos Beach: This beach is set on an island about eight miles off the coast of Ponce, within a nature reserve that also has a lighthouse, a cave, and many hiking trails. Days can be as filled with activities, or as laid back and lazy as you want, with gorgeous views to take in all the while no matter what you do.
