Set off Highway 14 in one of the most developed areas of Ponce is the El Monte Town Center. Frequented by locals, the town center is surrounded by an upper middle class neighborhood with a bit of expendable cash that draws more upscale shops to the center. Still, El Monte is anchored by popular super saver Walmart and there is a Payless shoe store in the mix.
This 78,274 shopping center is an open air town center, where you walk outside to go from shop to shop. Fortunately, a covered walk way is available to keep business flowing on rainy days without insisting that shoppers break out their umbrellas.
El Monte Town Center is located in the northeastern outskirts of Ponce.
While you may not see what you're shopping for at El Monte Town Center, you will also be able to try a few additional miscellaneous shops nearby.

If heading to a museum interests you, allow yourself time to experience Museo Francisco Pancho Coimbre. Or, if you would rather visit a historical site, then you may want to try Tibes Indian Ceremonial Center. You will also find at least a couple of places where you can eat nearby.
El Monte is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., except for Sunday when shops begin opening at 11:00 a.m.
