Originally built for the 1882 Exhibition Trade Fair, Parque de Bombas was later turned into the first fire station in Puerto Rico. It served that same purpose for over 100 years, when it was decommissioned in 1990 and later turned into a museum honoring the history of firefighting in Puerto Rico.

What to Expect

Parque de Bombas now serves as a museum honoring the history of firefighting in Puero Rico. On the walls are photos of firefighters from the 19th century, as well as displays of firefighting artifacts an equipments, and a vintage red fire engine.

Easily the most recognizable building in Puerto Rico, Parque de Bombas stands out because it is painted entirely black and red. The structure features Gothic architecture with Moorish influences, and is rectangular with curved moldings and long, narrow windows. Flanked by two towers, the building is two stories tall.
