Although the Emperor Valley Zoo was first built in 1947, it wasn't until 1952 that the doors were opened to the public. To this day it remains a popular family attraction, showcasing both regional and exotic animals and furthering the cause of animal conservation.

The Emperor Valley Zoo takes over 7.2 acres of land and features paths, buildings, and fences that have been made to blend into the landscape rather than take it over.

Most of the animals on display at the zoo are local to Trinidad and Tobago and nearby South America. Still, there are a few exotic animals that make their home at the zoo. Recently they acquired two giraffes and two warthogs which will become permanent fixtures to the attraction, just as the wild-caught anaconda did several months prior.

Situated in St. Ann's, on the outskirts of Port of Spain, a mile north of downtown, Emperor Valley Zoo is found within Royal Botanical Gardens, and invites local customers and travelers lodging in this neighborhood. Regardless of whether or not you are staying in the vicinity, you should think about stopping by to check out the sights.
