This nature preserve is a mixture of forest and swampland that today is the location of choice for both tourists and migratory birds. In addition, the site is also home to a large fort built by the British in the latter part of the eighteenth century that included around 50 different building.
Cabrits Historical and Marine Park offer a variety of trails that guests can travel that offer a variety of scenery; ranging from ocean views along the coast to the sight of ruins and old forts. A small museum also onsite is perfect for history buffs.
Cabrits Historical and Marine Park lies on the northwestern part of the island of Dominica, 1.6 miles south west of Tanetane; it's to the west-northwest of Portsmouth.
Of course, one of the most delightful options while spending some time exploring the area could be having food at a restaurant within traveling distance of the nature preserve. The most proximate restaurant to Cabrits Historical and Marine Park is Purple Turtle Beach Club, which serves Caribbean fare. Blue Bay Restaurant and offer additional restaurant choices nearby where you will be able to enjoy the local foods and culture of Dominica.
There are at least one or two additional places of interest in the area, including Fort Shirley, which is a few hundred yards away near Portsmouth. You might also think about checking out Fort Shirley Welcome Center and Museum, which is another attraction in the vicinity.

The park itself is generally open all day, from sunup to sundown. However, some of the staffed features like the museum is only open from 9:00am until 5:00pm.
Guests are free to check out the area, though there will be admission (around $5) to gain access to the museum.
