Cabrits Historical and Marine Park

This nature preserve is a mixture of forest and swampland that today is the location of choice for both tourists and migratory birds. In addition, the site is also home to a large fort built by the British in the latter part of the eighteenth century that included around 50 different building.

Cabrits Historical and Marine Park offer a variety of trails that guests can travel that offer a variety of scenery; ranging from ocean views along the coast to the sight of ruins and old forts. A small museum also onsite is perfect for history buffs.


Positioned on the island of Dominica, 1.6 miles south west of Tanetane, Cabrits Historical and Marine Park invites residents and tourists who are rooming on this part of the island or nearby. However, even if you aren't staying very close, you should consider dropping by to enjoy a great time. It's west-northwest of Portsmouth.

If you find your belly rumbling during your visit to the nature preserve, don't worry -- you can find an exceptionally large selection of dining options in this general area. Purple Turtle Beach Club, which offers Caribbean meals, is also the closest restaurant to the nature preserve. Also within reach, you and your group will come across restaurants such as Blue Bay Restaurant and Douglas Guesthouse Snackette so if you're lucky, at least one of these nearby restaurants will delight the whole party.

The park itself is generally open all day, from sunup to sundown. However, some of the staffed features like the museum is only open from 9:00am until 5:00pm.


Guests are free to check out the area, though there will be admission (around $5) to gain access to the museum.
