There are about 20 dive sites readily available to divers in the Portsmouth area, including volcanic vents, coral gardens, and caves. The island's youth in geological time certainly plays a role in creating the perfect environment for exploring marine life that is unlike anywhere else in the region.
There are two dive operators, some dive shops, and a small number of interesting dive sites in the area.
The dive shops worth looking into are shown in the table below.
|Cabrits Dive Centre||(767) 445-3011||1.3 mi. West of Central Portsmouth|
|(767) 446-6522||8.7 mi. South of Central Portsmouth|
If you want to go diving, you might want to check with JC Ocean Adventures. A new dive shop with all new gear, offering dives within the famed Cabrits National Park with experienced guide Jorge, JC Ocean Adventures also specializes in snorkeling, whale watching, cruises, and any combination of custom boating trips. With 17 years of experience boating and diving around the island, this is a company who knows their stuff. They are located in western Portsmouth.
Another good option is SeaSide Dive Resort. You won't find a "dive center factory" here. Instead, a personable team with a passion for diving is available to take guests out to explore the island's beautiful underwater landscape. You can reach them at (767) 446-6522.
The following table provides some information regarding diving services in the area.
