This beach is not just another beautiful natural attraction, it is one of the more unique and quiet beaches on Dominica. While Douglas Bay may be a little more difficult to reach, it offers unparalleled relaxation opportunities.
You should have no trouble finding your way here by car. Head north out of Portsmouth on West Coast Rd. then bear right as the road heads straight towards Fort Shirley.
The expanse of clear blue ocean and sky stands is stark contrast to the lush green hills that surround this area. Featuring underwater rock formations with abundant marine fauna, this beach's real treat is the snorkeling.
Unfortunately, you won't find any public restrooms along this coastline, so those of you traveling with small children may want to consider another spot.
Set on Dominica's North West coast; it will be near other attractions like Fort Shirley, which is not very far away, so you may choose to walk to this destination, while some will prefer to take a cab.
Beaches and museums may seem an odd combination to some, but some visitors find that museums like Fort Shirley Welcome Center and Museum (situated only a brief walk or taxi ride away) offer an entertaining diversion and help visitors understand Dominica's interesting past.

Douglas Bay is close to Portsmouth, so walking the city is a definite option. Portsmouth is nearby and is noted for its balance between seclusion and urbanization.
How many other people you encounter at Douglas Bay will vary depending on the time of day, particularly in the high season when hotels overflow with tourists. This spot is not near many large hotels, but you may see visitors from smaller lodgings in the area.

Travelers in search of the perfect beach will have plenty of other choices on Dominica besides Douglas Bay.
If you like the ambiance at this beach, you might also like Dublanc Beach, situated a short taxi ride away. But, if you're interested in a more active beach, you might find that Secret Beach is just right. It's found three and a half miles to the south.
Another location you may want to try is Purple Beach, located three quarters of a mile to the south.
There's plenty to see and do on Dominica, and Douglas Bay offers just one way to spend time outdoors.
