This northern beach features a few spots of soft sand amid the rocky shore and calm waters for swimming. It's also a delight for snorkeling and it's near many other attractions, including the Cabritis National Park.

How to Access The Beach
You should have no trouble finding your way here by car. Head north out of Portsmouth on West Coast Rd. then bear right as the road heads straight towards Fort Shirley.

Amenities and Ambiance

The expanse of clear blue ocean and sky stands is stark contrast to the lush green hills that surround this area. Featuring underwater rock formations with abundant marine fauna, this beach's real treat is the snorkeling.

Please note that public restrooms are not available, so if you're visiting with small children you might want to consider a different location.

Visitors will find this beach on Dominica's North West coast. Fort Shirley is close enough that guests will have the choice to walk or take a cab, and it is one of the attractions in the area.

Douglas Bay is very close to Portsmouth, so walking the city is a definite option. Portsmouth is the closest city and is an area with plenty to do, but yet isn't overcrowded.


The number of other people sharing spots in the sand can vary widely, depending on everything from the time the sun sets to how many of the nearby hotel rooms have been booked. There aren't many large hotels nearby, but it's often visited by guests from some of the area's smaller options.

Other Beaches

Dominica has several beautiful beaches, so Douglas Bay is not your only option.

If you like the ambiance at this beach, you might also like Dublanc Beach, located a quick car or cab ride away. Others might prefer Secret Beach, which could provide a few more possibilities for excitement, and isn't far from additional things to do and see nearby. It's found three and a half miles to the south.

You may also enjoy Purple Beach, which is located within a couple of miles.

Of course, Dominica has hundreds of natural wonders to discover, but Douglas Bay is both a beautiful natural attraction, and a fun hangout spot.
