Fort Shirley

Built in the 1700's, this fort once stood guard for all of Dominica. Today it is part of the Cabrits National Park, and offers tourist a unique window into the history of the Caribbean's colonial past.

There are several picks of eateries to pick from in the community immediately near Fort Shirley. The nearest place to eat is Purple Turtle Beach Club, which serves Caribbean meals. Operating Hours

Today, much of the fort is intact or rebuilt, allowing visitors to see what the area must have looked like back when the fort was operational. Those who climb the walls will be able to look out into the bay past a row of canons, just as they would be waiting for a ship to come into range.
