Flying to Providenciales

All flights to Turks and Caicos are routed through Providenciales

Home to the main airport in Turks and Caicos, Providenciales is the point of arrival for the majority of tourists who visit the country. From here, there is the option to continue on to your next destination or stay right on the island which is a popular destination in its own right.

The Providenciales International Airport (PLS), which is more commonly referred to as the Provo Air Center, is located on the south coast of the island just moments away from major tourist hot spots like Grace Bay, Blue Hills, and Five Cays. Visitors heading to these well-known names and many other destinations in Turks and Caicos can get to the Provo Air Strip from countries around the world thanks to regular services hosted by such huge names in the air travel game as Delta Airlines, Jet Blue, and Air Canada. Miami, New York, and Montreal are the major hubs which often have direct flights to Providenciales, which means if you live too far away from these cities to drive you'll have to plan a connecting flight. A probable layover doesn't deter too many tourists from making the trip and over 12,000 commercial operations occur at this airport each year.

When flying from the United States this table can be useful. Booking services don't always list the best options so it can be handy to see which airlines actually fly direct to this location.

Flying to Providenciales from the Caribbean

In addition to international travel, Provo Air Center is the hub for all domestic air travel as well. From this airport you can get to Cockburn Town on Grand Turk (opening up more options for flights within the country) and Salt Cay with local carriers Intercaribbean Airways and Caicos Express Airways. These two airlines also offer flights to nearby Caribbean countries such as the Dominican Republic and Jamaica, so you can be on the lookout for a good deal if island-hopping is in your vacation plan.

See the table below for scheduled air service from other airports in the Caribbean. Even if there are no flights from an airport near you, a connecting flight from a regional airport might be an excellent option.

International travelers will need to present a passport in order to obtain entry to Providenciales– unless of course they are from Canada. Canadian citizens need an original or notarized copy of their birth certificate and a government issued ID. If you are staying for less than three months you can enter without a visa, but anyone staying longer should contact their local embassy.

Leaving the Airport

Buses do not run from the airport and the nearest stop is too far away for those hauling luggage to consider it a feasible option. This makes taxis and rental cars the best way to get to your accommodations from Provo Air Center.

Providenciales is the easiest island to fly to in Turks and Caicos, and even if you don't plan to stay here full time you'll probably make a stop at the local airport along the way. Fortunately, the airport is known for its smooth operations, and you can make things go even better by knowing what to expect in advance of your flight.
