Natural Attractions in Puerto Morelos

Puerto Morelos is typified by the mangrove swamps which divide the town into different sections.  Residents see these swamps as part of every day life, but to tourists they are a great way to experience local flora and fauna.  A stroll along the shore is another great way to spend some time outdoors, but for more extensive eco-tourism options, you may consider a few day trips while making this town your quiet home base. 

Nature Preserves and Hiking

Do you want to enjoy part of your vacation seeing the local flaura and fauna? You might be pleased to know the area has a pair of nature preserves in and nearby.

Punta Nizuc National Park is a nature preserve located 14.1 mi. North-Northeast of central Puerto Morelos. Located right off the shore of one of the most popular vacation destination of the Caribbean, Punta Nizuc National Park is a underwater park that is a must for any diver that wants to experience what Mexico has to offer.

Zoos and Aquariums

Crococun Zoo

If the thought of spending part of a day surrounded by animals sounds like fun, you should visit Crococun Zoo. This attractions is located just under 20 miles away from Cancun in the Maya Riviera. Take the MYAB bus line from the Cancun or Playa del Carmen bus stations for a direct ride to the zoo.

Another similar attraction is Xaman-Ha Aviary. The well-cared for Xaman-Ha Aviary is set on 32 acres of Playacar, and features over 30 species of nature birds, amounting in around 200 individual birds.
