Puerto Plata is the most popular tourist destination in the Dominican Republic. But, why? The beaches, of course. There are at least half a dozen worth mentioning in this port town, and tourists generally spend their days split between their resort, the restaurants, and the beaches.

One beach with snorkeling is Playa Costambar. The beach is located right off a main road in town and has plenty of parking.
A second option for beach-goers to consider is Dorada Beach. This beach is located just east of Puerto Plata.
