There are plenty of attractions to entice you in Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico's natural beauty is just one of many qualities that bring travelers to the island's shores. Plentiful attractions make visiting this island a must for so many of its vacationers, but the top two reasons most travelers make Puerto Rico their vacation destination are beaches and casinos.


Vega Baja Beach

You will discover several beaches to consider on the island. Whether you prefer people watching, or you prefer a more secluded spot, you should be able to find just the right beach. You can click on the name of the beach to get additional information concerning that section of the coast.

If you are looking for a snorkeling spot, a place worth considering is The Shacks. Not far from some major tourist areas, The Shacks has been able to keep a low profile despite its very large beach and relatively easy access. Being located right where the Atlantic Ocean turns into the Caribbean Sea, this beach has a nice hybrid of clear Caribbean Waters and rough Atlantic Waves.

Another good choice for those who enjoy snorkeling is Playa Escondida.

Isla Caja de Muertos Beach: This beach is set on an island about eight miles off the coast of Ponce, within a nature reserve that also has a lighthouse, a cave, and many hiking trails. Days can be as filled with activities, or as laid back and lazy as you want, with gorgeous views to take in all the while no matter what you do.

Landmark Attractions

Museo Castillo Serralles

A landmark worth visiting is Museo de Arte Contemporaneo. It is Condado District, in eastern Puerto Rico. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

If you are looking to do more sight-seeing, visit Museo Castillo Serralles. It is found in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Start at the La Hacienda Mercedita, which was the home of the Serralles family, who own the rum distillery which produces Don Q Puerto Rican Rum. Inside is a museum dedicated to the history of rum making on the island, and visitors will have the opportunity to tour the refurbished home and see how the Serralles family lived.

Museo de arte de Puerto Rico: Spanning 130,000 square feet, the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico has worked towards providing the Puerto Rican public with access to contemporary artwork since 2000. There is a permanent collection of Puerto Rican and Latin art from the 16th century to present, plus a number of educational programs that are available to educate the public and raise awareness about the world of visual arts.

Natural Attractions

El Yunque National Forest

One of the better known local attractions is El Yunque National Forest. As the only tropical rain forest in the United States, El Yunque is a prized possession in Puerto Rico. Explore its nearly 28,000 acres of dense forests and rough mountain landscape through their hiking trails, lookout towers, or driving through its main road and simply looking around.

Another local site to consider is Cabo Rojo National Wildlife Refuge. An official national wildlife refuge of the United States, Cabo Rojo was established in 1974 as refuge for migratory birds and several tropical bird species that call the area home year-round.

Ready for some action? Those hoping to try their luck will have plenty of venues where they can do so on the island.
