Puerto Rico's natural beauty is just one of many qualities that bring travelers to the island's shores. Plentiful attractions make visiting this island a must for so many of its vacationers, but the top two reasons most travelers make Puerto Rico their vacation destination are beaches and casinos.

Vega Baja Beach

There are a large selection of beaches to consider visiting on the island. Regardless of whether you enjoy people watching, or you prefer a more secluded spot, you can find a beach that fits your preferences. You can click on the beach names for a detailed review of that specific beach.

If you like snorkeling, a beach offering that option is The Shacks. Defined by the central rock formation and cliff (which also serves as a parking area) the beach offers guests clean sand and water and plenty of room to spread out. Additionally the all of trees help block out view of the city life just a few miles away, letting guests relax with ease.

Another good option for snorkeling fans is Playa Escondida. Not for swimming, this beach is certainly still worth the 25 minute walk it takes to access it if you are looking or a quiet, private stretch of sand with a view. In fact, the name of the beach translated from Spanish means "Hidden."

Isla Caja de Muertos Beach: A ferry boat out of Ponce makes one trip to and one trip from this island. It leaves from the La Guancha Marina at 8:30 a.m.

Of course, the area has plenty of additional beaches on the island. If you're interested, you can learn more by visiting this page.

Landmark Attractions

Museo Castillo Serralles

A landmark worth visiting is Museo de Arte Contemporaneo. It is Condado District, in eastern Puerto Rico. There are over 900 pieces of art work in the permanent collection at Museo de Arte Contemporaneo, but only a small fraction of that is put on display at any one time. This, coupled with a number of rotating exhibits keeps the museum fresh and worth visiting during each trip to Puerto Rico.

Another interesting landmark worth visiting is Museo Castillo Serralles. It is found within Ponce, Puerto Rico. Start at the La Hacienda Mercedita, which was the home of the Serralles family, who own the rum distillery which produces Don Q Puerto Rican Rum. Inside is a museum dedicated to the history of rum making on the island, and visitors will have the opportunity to tour the refurbished home and see how the Serralles family lived.

Museo de arte de Puerto Rico: On Wednesday, they operate between 10 a.m. - 8 p.m.

Natural Attractions

El Yunque National Forest

El Yunque National Forest is one of the better known outdoor attractions. As the only tropical rain forest in the United States, El Yunque is a prized possession in Puerto Rico. Explore its nearly 28,000 acres of dense forests and rough mountain landscape through their hiking trails, lookout towers, or driving through its main road and simply looking around.

A second option to consider is Cabo Rojo National Wildlife Refuge. An official national wildlife refuge of the United States, Cabo Rojo was established in 1974 as refuge for migratory birds and several tropical bird species that call the area home year-round.
