1 | Point Borinquen Lighthouse

Set on the Coast Guard Base in Aguadilla, the Point Borinquen Lighthouse was originally built by the Spanish government in 1889, but destroyed by a tsunami in 1918. The next incarnation was built on higher grounds, but the ruins of the original lighthouse have been left untouched for generations.

This lighthouse is three and a half miles (five and a half kilometers) north of the center of Aguadilla.

2 | Borinquen Golf Club

The fairways play fairly narrow, but the course is so open and the rough so harmless that errant shots aren't punished too heavily here. Large greens also make this course a good spot for beginners to get their feet wet.

Situated in the vicinity of Aguadilla, this golf course is located a mile (a kilometer and a half) to the east of Point Borinquen Lighthouse.

3 | Punta Borinquen Golf Club

Punta Borinquen is way up on the northwest corner of the island, right against the coast. Golfers will have incredible views of the Caribbean throughout their round, though the hole running alongside the coastal cliff is definitely the most spectacular. If you hang around for a while after your round, you'll be rewarded one of the prettiest sunsets you'll find anywhere.

Head a half mile (less than a kilometer) north from Borinquen Golf Club to get to this golf course, which is located on the northern edge of the vicinity of Aguadilla.

4 | Ocean Casino

The Marriott Courtyard Casino Aguadilla is not one of Puerto Rico's largest or most popular casinos, but it does the trick for guests who want to relax after a day of business or exploring the island.

This casino is situated only 0.9 miles (1.5 km) from Punta Borinquen Golf Club, and is within Courtyard By Marriott Aguadilla.

From the center of Arecibo, go seven miles (11 and a half kilometers) to the west to find this park.

2 | Parque Juan Cheo Lopez Caba

Situated on the northeastern edge of Camuy, this park is a few hundred yards (a quarter kilometer) from Parque Jose A Mendez Frangu.

4 | Parque Alejandro Jerena Colon

This park can be found on the northern outskirts of the town of Hatillo, one and a quarter miles (two kilometers) to the east of Parque Juan Cheo Lopez Caba.

1 | Parque Recreativo Pasivo Julio Rodriguez Olmo

Travelers can find this park near the middle of Arecibo, just 0.6 miles (1.0 km) from the center of Arecibo.

1 | Cueva del Indio

This cave is six and a half miles (ten and a half kilometers) east of the center of Arecibo.

1 | the Pineapple Course

Offering a slightly less formidable challenge to golfers without PGA hopes, the course features larger greens, bunkers without tremendous depth, and fewer forced carries. Either way, the course is nothing to scoff at, and it's as picturesque as they come.

Visitors will be able to find this golf course on the same premises as Ritz-Carlton Dorado Beach, two and a half miles (three and a half kilometers) to the west of the center of Dorado.

2 | the West Course

There are four par-3 holes at the West Course which, as a group, are more difficult than those found elsewhere on the four-course complex. All of them are under 200 yards, but sloping greens and a seemingly impenetrable morass of bunkers make them especially difficult to manage.

3 | the Sugarcane Course

This is the tougher of the two Plantation Courses here (the other being the Pineapple Course). Although fairways are comparatively larger, bunkers are deeper and more intimidating, and there are more forced carries.

4 | the East Course

The East Course has been renovated by the son of the course's original design, bringing it up to and beyond modern standards. An aggressive tree management program has restored the original site lines on most of the holes.

5 | Dorado Del Mar

Palm trees line the narrow fairways, which lead up to nice, big greens. The terrain is rolling, though subtly so, and strong winds will likely cause more of a challenge than uneven lies.

This golf course is 1.6 miles (2.5 km) east of Dorado Beach East Course, and is at 200 Dorado del Mar.

6 | Dorado Del Mar Casino

Famous for the caves that are a product of the karst formations underground, the Guajataca State Forest is a popular destination for anyone looking to head underground.

This nature sanctuary/wildlife reserve is located on PR-446, and is 6.2 miles (10.0 km) south-southeast of the center of Isabela.

1 | Bosque Estatal De Cambalache

Known for caves and the many bats that call them home, Bosque Estatal De Cambalache is a small park that is rarely crowded. The area is also packed with sudden and steep hills, known as mogotes that give the area a unique landscape that nature-lovers and eco-tourist should enjoy.

This nature sanctuary/wildlife reserve is situated within driving range of Arecibo, and is 9.3 miles (15.0 km) from the center of Arecibo.

This park is situated in the eastern part of Barceloneta, and is eight miles (13 kilometers) to the west of the center of Sandin.

2 | Roma Esthetic

From the outside in, Roma Esthetic is a medical spa offers a long list of treatments to bring peace and beauty to each customer who walks in the door.

This spa is situated approximately four miles (approximately six kilometers) east-southeast of Parque Infantil, and is on Marginal San Salvador B-7.

3 | Laguna Tortuguero Nature Reserve

One of the most critical ecosystems in all of Puerto Rico, the Laguna Tortuguero is home to almost one-thousand species of plants and animal life that is constantly loosing living space elsewhere on the island. Most noticeably, guests will have no problem spotting crocodiles and a variety of birds.

Vacationers will find this nature sanctuary/wildlife reserve on Avenue Sol, approximately three and a half miles (approximately six kilometers) to the northeast of Roma Esthetic.

1 | Bosque Estatal Vega

Established to preserve the aquifer that lies beneath the park, it is part of Puerto Rico's plan in preparing for the growing population and urbanization of the island. This part of the plan has a forest that acts as a natural filter for water entering the aquifer, as well as limiting the consumption by the population.

Visitors will be able to find this nature sanctuary/wildlife reserve on the western edge of Vega Alta, one and a quarter miles (two kilometers) to the west of the center of Vega Alta.

3 | Bahia Beach Plantation

In addition to the lakes winding throughout the course, additional obstacles are presented by the massive, deep bunkers fortifying its greens. After meandering through its network of lagoons, you'll finish up by playing the final three holes alongside one of the most spectacular beaches on the island.

4 | Coco Golf Championship

From the beautiful scenery to the difficulty level, this golf course is one of epic proportions. One of two different courses on the property, it serves as the home to the PGA tour's Puerto Rico Open, which is held each year in the first week of March.

Make your way about a mile (approximately a kilometer and a half) east from Bahia Beach Golf Club to find this golf course, which is located at 200 Coco Beach Blvd. Highway 955-I.

5 | Coco golf international

The course is in a truly beautiful area, and a few holes offer some great views of the Atlantic. Every hole is very well-bunkered with silica sand, and one of the sixteen man-made lakes will play a factor on nearly every hole.

6 | Coco Beach Golf

The golf club is located on 1,200 acres of oceanfront property. On a number of holes, you'll be golfing alongside the spectacular Ensenada Comezon cove.

This golf course is situated at 100 Clubhouse Drive, and is less than a hundred yards (less than a hundred meters) from Coco Beach Golf Club International Course.

1 | Chorro de Oro Waterfall

While this waterfall may be less visited, to does not make it any less beautiful, giving a wondrous sight for any person not wanting to travel too far inland on the island.

The center of Bayamon is located approximately five and a half miles (approximately nine kilometers) to the east of this park.

If you're coming from Cancha Lauro Davila, go a few hundred yards (a few hundred meters) to the east to find this park.

1 | Space Rocket Plaza

You will be able to find this park on the northern outskirts of the city of Bayamon, approximately two miles (approximately three kilometers) north of the center of Bayamon.

2 | Science Park

Part park and part museum, the Science Park is dedicated to the achievements of all mankind, and features models and reproductions of rocket ships and other great inventions. Go ahead and walk around and see all there is to see at this large outdoor museum.

Found on the northern outskirts of the city of Bayamon, this museum is a few hundred yards (a quarter kilometer) from Space Rocket Plaza.

This park is situated two and a half miles (four kilometers) south of Science Park.

4 | Plazoleta Del Canton

This park is located two miles (three kilometers) north of Complejo Deportivo Carcano Alicea.

5 | Riverside Park

Guests will find this park three quarters of a mile (one and a quarter kilometers) east-southeast of Plazoleta Del Canton.

6 | Río Bayamón Golf

The only course in the Bayamon metropolitan area, Rio Bayamon Golf Course actually only has nine holes -- though there are plants for expansion in the coming years. Still, it is a great spot to stop for a few rounds and to practice your skills, especially when you only have time for a short game.

This park is situated on the northwestern outskirts of the vicinity of Fajardo, one and an eighth miles (a kilometer and a half) to the east-southeast of Wyndham Rio Mar Casino.

Featuring a history of ocean travel and shipwrecks in the area, the Maritime Museum is a great way to spend some time to learn not only the role of maritime travel, but also of the lives the nearby lighthouse may have saved over the years.

2 | Punta Higuero Lighthouse

Located in the popular surf town of Rincon, the Punta Higuero Lighthouse was originally built in 1892 and has since aided many a water craft navigate the dangerous waters off the coast of Puerto Rico. Although the lighthouse was damaged in an earthquake in 1918, it was quickly refurbished and stands tall to this day.

Guests can find this lighthouse on Rt 4413, Punta Higuero, less than a hundred yards (less than a hundred meters) from Maritime Museum.

Also known as El Charo de la Leche, which means the "pool of milk," Gozalandia is a hidden oasis of three pools connecting one waterfall.

Go 9.6 miles (15.5 km) south from the center of Isabela to find this waterfall.

Take a tour and explore the Arecibo Observatory, a massive complex complete with a one-thousand ton antenna. A trip to the observatory will include presentations, explorations, as well as a historical lesson of the largest radio-telescope on Earth.

2 | Bosque Estatal De Río Abajo

This large park was once nearly bare of all trees, thanks to an aggressive logging industry on the island in the early 1900's. Thankfully, the park was established and a replanting movement went underway, and now this forest has reclaimed 5000 acres of land.

This nature sanctuary/wildlife reserve can be found within easy traveling range of Utuado, two miles (three and a half kilometers) east of Arecibo Observatory.

2 | Fero de las Cabezas de San Juan Lighthouse

Set on the grounds of the Las Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve is Fero de las Cabezas de San Juan, a lighthouse erected by the Spanish in 1882 to guide sailors in the dark. It is located on the northeaster point of Cape San Juan, one of the highest points on the island.

3 | Parque La Juventud

Visitors can find this park in the town of Las Croabas, a mile and a half (two and a half kilometers) to the south-southwest of Fero de las Cabezas de San Juan Lighthouse.

4 | El Conqistador

Located on the northeast corner of Puerto Rico, El Conquistador offers a course that should suit golfers of varying skill levels, and also offers views of the El Yunque Rain Forest on one side, and the Atlantic ocean on the other. The fairways are relatively straight, but water hazards and well-bunkered greens can create plenty of challenge.

This golf course can be found a few hundred yards (a quarter kilometer) from Parque La Juventud, and is at El Conquistador Resort, A Waldorf Astoria Resort.

5 | Cayos De La Cordillera Nature Reserve

The natural reserve does not itself offer any activities, however many people find it a great place just to explore. Many of the tour groups in the area will have options that take you here, so if you are interested, just ask them.

Interested visitors will find this nature sanctuary/wildlife reserve on the eastern outskirts of the vicinity of Fajardo, a mile and a half (two and a half kilometers) south-southeast of El Conquistador Resort & Country Club.

6 | Bosque Estatal De Ceiba

Very close to the city of Fajardo and Ceiba, the Bosque Estatal de Ceiba is a popular destination for anyone looking to take part it outdoor activities while on the island. Visitors will find plenty of people enjoying the forest with a hike, looking out for birds, or heading to the mangroves and fishing.

5 | Taino Indian Ceremonial Center

A historical site indeed, the Tibes Indian Ceremonial Center showcases a village that is over 1500 years old, and exhibits skeletons that too date back to at least 700 AD.

Tucked away in EL Yunque National Park, this waterfall is a hidden gem for any travel willing to make the journey to find it. If you enjoy a long hike, or an adventure upstream, then you will not want to miss La Mina Falls.

2 | El Yunque National Forest

As the only tropical rain forest in the United States, El Yunque is a prized possession in Puerto Rico. Explore its nearly 28,000 acres of dense forests and rough mountain landscape through their hiking trails, lookout towers, or driving through its main road and simply looking around.

Fly through seven miles of trees while dangling from one of La Marquesa Canopy Tour's zip-lines. These are a perfect way to view the rain forest while also having a great time.

4 | Caguas Museum

This house was once the site of the short lived Puerto Rican Nationalist movement who claimed independence from the United States on October 30, 1950. While the revolutionaries were arrested, this museum stands in honor of the brief stage in Puerto Rican history.

This museum is located 14.4 miles (23.1 km) to the north of the center of Ponce, and is on Route 144.

This park can be found on the northern outskirts of Gurabo, four and a half miles (seven kilometers) to the northwest of the center of Juncos.

The fairways vary in width, but they all feature a challenging twist or two. Both the greens and fairways are immaculately maintained, and are integrated seamlessly into the region's rolling terrain.

1 | Complejo Deportivo Jose Changy Diaz

The course here is one of two in Cabo Rojo, and features open fairways and a pair of water hazards. A round here may not quite be the toughest on the island, but the first hole is considered by some to be the most challenging in all of Puerto Rico.
