Bosque Estatal De Toro Negro

While not the most popular of Puerto Rico's natural attractions, the park at Toro Negro Forest offers a varied experience for hikers looking for a day of sightseeing and trail blazing.

There are nearly a dozen different trail patterns you can take, with some short and sweet and others long. Some of the trails will take you by ruins and hills offering fantastic views, while other will take you into hidden clearings with waterfalls.

Location

Bosque Estatal De Toro Negro can be found near the middle of the island of Puerto Rico; it is 11 miles (17 and a half kilometers) to the north-northeast of Ponce.

Nearby Restaurants

Guests visiting this wildlife reserve will have no problem finding a meal, since you can find a broad selection of dining possibilities within traveling distance. All Star Cafe is a wonderful location to enjoy a meal at before visiting the wildlife reservation, and will be of particular interest to visitors looking for a convenient meal. Also within a short distance, you will have eateries such as Bianca's Cafe and Cafe Jayuya allowing you to choose between multiple dining possibilities.

Active travelers that like nature preserves, and would like to see others, should check out Bosque Estatal De Tres Picachos and Bosque Estatal De Cerrillos; the first is four miles to the north-northeast of this wildlife reservation. Additional local attractions include Casa Canales Museum, which is three and a half miles away near Utuado. You might also want to think about heading over to Luis A. Wito Morales Park, which is another nearby attraction.

More Information

Hours

There are no official hours for the park, especially since campers will be staying overnight. However, the ranger office does have hours. It is open Monday through Friday from 7:30am until 4:00pm.

Cost

There is no admission for those that want to enter the park. If you are looking to camp, though, you will need to pay a fee per person that varies throughout the year.
