Guajataca Beach

Between Isabela and Quebradillas on Puerto Rico's north coast is Guajataca Beach. This beach, though beautiful and inviting, is not for swimming. The waters are too rough and the wicked undertow can be dangerous. Instead, surfing is a favored pastime here, as is beach combing. Additionally, the fresh waters of the Guajataca River flow into the ocean here at Guajataca Beach, and kayakers can usually be found paddling through these waters.

Located on the western coast of the island of Puerto Rico, You should consider stopping by even if you aren't staying in the immediate vicinity. Not looking forward to staking out a spot at a busy beach? All the more reason you should find a beach that hasn't been "discovered" by thousands of tourists; the lovely, less-traveled shores of beaches like Guajataca Beach make great places to spread out and relax.

How to Access The Beach
Guajataca Beach is located off Highway 2 as you head from Isabela to Quebradillas. To get to the beach, park off the road and walk the coastal trail through an abandoned train tunnel.

Amenities and Ambiance

Rugged cliffs watch over Guajataca Beach. The sands are soft and white, dotted with seashells that wash ashore in high tide, and the waters are aquamarine. Palm trees fringe the beach, and to the east, Guajataca River feeds into the ocean.
