Guajataca Beach

Between Isabela and Quebradillas on Puerto Rico's north coast is Guajataca Beach. This beach, though beautiful and inviting, is not for swimming. The waters are too rough and the wicked undertow can be dangerous. Instead, surfing is a favored pastime here, as is beach combing. Additionally, the fresh waters of the Guajataca River flow into the ocean here at Guajataca Beach, and kayakers can usually be found paddling through these waters.

Located on the western coast of the island of Puerto Rico, You might want to drop by whether or not you are staying very close. This beach is not just beautiful, it's special in that it's one of the few quiet beaches in Puerto Rico. While Guajataca Beach may be a bit off the beaten path, it's the best place to take an undisturbed nap on the sand.

How to Access The Beach
Guajataca Beach is located off Highway 2 as you head from Isabela to Quebradillas. To get to the beach, park off the road and walk the coastal trail through an abandoned train tunnel.

Amenities and Ambiance

Rugged cliffs watch over Guajataca Beach. The sands are soft and white, dotted with seashells that wash ashore in high tide, and the waters are aquamarine. Palm trees fringe the beach, and to the east, Guajataca River feeds into the ocean.

This beach is positioned on the West coast of Puerto Rico. It is near some interesting sites like Golf Links, which is situated two miles away, and it is one of a number of local attractions.

If you want to combine a cultural experience with your visit to the beach, you may want to consider visiting Recursos Historicos Museo De Lares. It's not far from the shores at Guajataca Beach, giving beachgoers the chance to escape that hot midday sunshine.

Guajataca Beach is near Quebradillas, so touring the city could be a fun side-trip after visiting the beach. Quebradillas is the closest city and is not lacking in exploration opportunities, yet also not overflowing with buildings. From Guajataca Beach, Quebradillas isn't far off, maybe two miles (three kilometers).


Whether this spot is full of bodies or practically empty will depend on many factors, including the capacity of nearby hotels. This beach is not near many large hotels, but it's often visited by visitors from some of the smaller accommodations in the area.

Travelers who like this beach might also enjoy Bridges Beach, located only a taxi trip away from the shore. More active guests, though, may be interested in The Shacks, which offers a few more possibilities for excitement, and isn't far from additional things to do and see nearby. You'll find it 13 miles to the west.

Another sun-drenched spot to consider is Jabos Beach, which is located five miles to the west.
