Since the 1970s, Punta Cana has been one of the most popular resort destinations in the Dominican Republic.  Most people come to spend their days completely on the beaches (which are some of the best around), but there is so much to see and do in the surrounding area that these visitors are selling themselves short.

Beaches

Macao Beach

You'll find a large number of beaches to consider in the area. Regardless of whether you prefer being around other people, or you prefer a more secluded spot, you should be able to find just the right beach. Click on the beach names to get additional information concerning that beach.

Juanillo Beach: Juanillo Beach features sparkling topaz waters that are clear and calm. They wash ashore clean, powder soft sands that are lined with well trimmed palm trees.

A second option worth considering is Cabeza de Toro Beach. Cabeza de Toro Beach is located in Higüey, along the Dominican Republic's east coast. This beach is public and has lifeguards on duty form 9 a.m. to 6 .m.

Macao Beach: The view from the shore of Macao is of cliffs to the right and clear turquoise waters as far as the eye can see. Back on land, the beach is tan with clusters of coconut palms providing shade.

These examples are just some of your options. You can read this extended discussion if you need some more specifics.

Land Formations

Another idea is to go see some of the more popular area land formations. Fully natural attractions like these in Punta Cana are listed in the following chart.

Land Formations In Punta Cana

Cabo Engano Lagoon Lagoon 4.7 mi. North-Northeast of Central Punta Cana
Lake Limestone Lake 0.5 mi. South West of Central Punta Cana

Casinos

In the mood for some action? Visitors who'd like to try their luck have quite a few places to do so in this area.

Casino Riu Palace Macao, which is on the premises of Riu Macao, is located in Punta Cana. Guests staying at the Riu Palace Macao Resort enjoy free entrance into the on site casino as a perk for boarding with them, however, this casino is privately owned and not an extension of the hotel itself. Nearly 50 slot machines and 12 table games fill the building, giving guests plenty of opportunity to try and hit the jackpot.

Barcelo Bavaro Palace Casino, on the premises of Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe, is located within the heart of Punta Cana. Barcelo Bavaro Palace Casino features yellow and black stained glass ceiling fixture that brightens up the room.

Catalonia Bavaro Casino has a wide array of games for gamers to play, including Blackjack, Poker, Poker - Caribbean Stud, and Roulette. Located at the Catalonia Bavaro Beach, Golf, and Casino Resort, this casino is one of the busiest spots for nighttime entertainment on resort property. With rows of slot machines and a floor filled with game tables, you're sure to find your high or low stakes niche in no time.

Of course, there are plenty of other choices. Read this extended discussion dedicated to gaming in Punta Cana if you'd like to learn some more facts.
