Providing guests with the opportunity to explore the area with ease, taxis are great way for anyone looking for short trips. However, the long distances between cities make taxis poor contenders as your main mode of transportation in Punta Gorda.
Each city, town, and village in Belize operates their taxi system just slightly different than the next, but there are a few constants like green license plates that indicate the vehicle is legal and licensed.
In Punta Gorda, you'll find taxis around Central Park and at the airstrip. You may get lucky and happen upon a cab in another location, but in general you should plan to call up a local service when you need a ride.
If you can't seem to find a taxi, or want one to pick you up from your hotel, you can contact one of the following taxi agencies:
|(501) 722-2402||Punta Gorda|
|(501) 626-6152||Vernon Street - Punta Gorda|
|(501) 722-2834||Punta Gorda|
The cost of the cab is the biggest difference in each town, and in fact, fares differ between each cab. Fares are not set or metered in Belize, so you'll always have to talk with your driver and settle on an amount together.
Curious what you'll pay to use a cab? Check out the following set of examples.
|Typical Cost (USD)||Location A||Location B|
|$ 175.00 - $ 201.25||Dangriga||Punta Gorda|
|$ 170.00 - $ 200.50||Placencia||Punta Gorda|
Although you may find that the experience of riding in a cab in Punta Gorda is sightly different than what you're used to back home, it is still a very viable transportation option to consider. Make sure to leave a little wiggle room in your budget because it can be so difficult to pin down a specific cost, and you shouldn't have any trouble making local taxis work for you.
